If this is your first chalk paint project and you re feeling anxious you can start with a side of the furniture that won t get as much air time like the back legs of a table.

Though your anxiety will quickly vanish when you see how easy it is to work with this paint.
This is called wet distressing because you used water to create the distressed look to your painted furniture.
After a few rubs you will see that the paint has been removed.
This step is very important.
You want to make sure you clean it well so that the paint will adhere to the wood.
However i have a bit of a problem.
I used a minwax poly for the top coat it s a kitchen table and the brush marks of the top coat are so noticeable.
Choose your distress technique.
This technique works great for chalk based or mineral based paints.
When i had wiped everything down it was time to get painting and distressing furniture.
However adding no protection means your piece is vulnerable to the elements wear and tear and natural distressing.
Naturally patinas and distresses over time.
Begin to rub the section of paint with the damp shop towel.
When you sand chalk paint you don t have to sand the entire piece of furniture.
