Making a shadow box is actually quite an easy procedure.
Do it yourself shadow box frame.
Place the spacer block in the center of the assembled frame or wherever it can best hide behind the cutout and then mark its location.
All you will need is a backboard some batting four wooden pieces to give dimension to your box a frame with glass which you can purchase or make on your own and of course the objects you will be displaying.
Step 1 choose a theme.
If the box is for a child it could be centered around memorabilia from the child s life everything from a birth certificate to a favorite toy blanket or photographs.
The first goal in designing a shadow box is to determine a theme.
Finish by securing the block with a nail that s at least 1 inches long.
Each long side should have three holes.
Drill in the two hinges along one side of the front of the box.
Each short side should have two.
Drive a wood screw into each pilot hole.
The artwork or objects that you plan to place inside of the shadow box frame needs to fit inside of it.
Then assemble items that will fit the chosen design.
Measure the item that you plan to place in the frame.
Measure from the edge of the box to the edge of the hinge then use this measurement to mark where the other half of the hinges will be attached on the front panel.
Turn the box glass side down then drop in the back panel.
Using a 5 64 inch bit drill three evenly spaced pilot holes through the back angled slightly into the box s frame.
Use a ruler or a tape measure to find the length and width of the item so you can make a shadow box frame that fits it.
Write down your measurements so you can easily remember them.
